Sansepolcro International lace biennial
Sansepolcro International Lace Biennial is now part of lace history for the contribution given to the so called "Lace Reinassance" movement in Italy and Europe.
The Biennial, born after the great success of two previous exhibits devoted to Sansepolcro traditional Lace, in 1983 and 1984, is now at its 11th edition, expected for September 2004. It is today considered one of the leading exhibitions in Italy and one of the most important internationally, as the increasing number of delegations and artists coming from all parts of the world tetifies. It's not a chance that the Biennial is sponsored by the Italian President of the Republic and the European parliament - Italian Office.
The Biennial is open to all kind of laces,the classic and avant-guard, the miniature and the monumental, the three-dimensional works, considering the art of lace expression of a creativity with no limits.
Core of the exhibition is the International Competition, where artists from all over the world take part into this sort of unique dispute. Peculiar is also the International Acknowledgement for industriousness and cooperation given to lace makers.
Beside the Biennial,
there are many other exhibitions, in various prestigious sites, dedicated
to italian lace, lace from abroad, lace and fashion, traditional
Sansepolcro lace, old and rare lace books, and so on and so forth. Introductory
conferences and stages for the learning of various techniques are
organised too.
The
economic aspect of the exhibition is intentionally overlooked. The accent
is focused on the cultural and social value of lace. The profile of the
exhibition is thus kept at a high level.
The XII Biennial will be
held in Sansepolcro from September 9th to October 16th
, 2006.
It will be dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, on the 250th
anniversary of his birth (1756).
The Theme of this edition will be: "Joy and freedom of inspiration".
